O HOLY NIGHT!! We’d taken a couple years off, but the semi-annual McKinney ’n Sons Family Christmas tradition is BACK IN ACTION in 2015, ready to spread holiday cheer to all Santa-fearing boys and girls on planet earth.

A little backstory: My sweet lady wife Emily and I have a running joke where we sing a song, repeating the first line (or just the first couple of words) over and over through the whole thing, sounding superficially similar but stripping out whatever meaning the song originally had. It turns out this joke works exceptionally well for Christmas songs, which might seem like some kind of deep commentary on how the true meaning of the holiday is trivialized by consumerism or whatever, but… meh. You can fill in the blanks any way you want. I also have a running joke where I am a “terrible singer”, and that joke is in full effect throughout the EP.

released December 1, 2015

I was joined on the EP by the Li'l Miss McKinney 'n Sons Family Singers:
Morgan Engelmann
Andrew Ramirez
Emily Roberts
Tatiana Ryckman
Wendy Walker

Super big thanks to all of those guys, and extra big thanks to Tatiana for letting me hijack her Thanksgiving party to set up a computer and record everybody singing bastardized Christmas carols for a couple hours.

Recorded/arranged by Ian McKinney at Claw’s Castle and Tatiana’s house, 2015.
